Understanding the Role of UNA-USA in Global Advocacy

The United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) is a membership group committed to informing, inspiring, and mobilizing Americans to support the values and important work of the United Nations. For 70 years, UNA-USA has pursued this mission through a national network of chapters, youth programs, advocacy, education initiatives, and public events. As part of the United Nations Foundation, UNA-USA and its sister group, the Better World Campaign, make up the largest network of UN supporters and advocates in the world.

The United Nations is the go-to organization for tackling the world’s biggest challenges. When disaster hits, people look to the UN for hope, help, leadership, and coordination. In times of fragile peace, it steps in to send peacekeepers, oversee elections, and support stability. Faced with global issues like climate change, disease, and poverty, the UN brings countries together to cooperate and find solutions.

The UN is an international organization, not a governing body, so its success relies on the cooperation of 193 independent member states and support from people worldwide. The United Nations Association of the United States, part of the United Nations Foundation, works tirelessly to promote the UN’s mission by linking Americans to its work and pushing for strong U.S. leadership within the organization.

 

With over 120 chapters and divisions nationwide, the United Nations Association of the USA’s Council of Chapters and Divisions, along with the National Membership staff, run programs and campaigns at both regional and national levels through public outreach, policy analysis, fundraising, events, and international dialogue.
